Using an old
advertisement as an example I started off with a plain Solido
Méhari 4x4. It was sprayed in Vert Montana. The wheels are
taken from some old toys. The wheelrims are leftovers from my 2CV
Cross project. The suspensionbars were made out of Styrene tube
(Evergreen) which I heated and then stretched a bit. The model is
placed in a little showbox from Ikea, in which I mounted some rockface
from a modeltrainscenery. |
En m’inspirant d’une publicité d’époque, j’ai
utilisé une miniature Solido pour réaliser ce projet. J’ai repeint
la miniature en vert Montana. Les grosses roues ont été empruntées
à un vieux jouet. Les jantes proviennent de mon projet « 2cv Cross
» et les pots de suspension sont faits de tube en styrène
(Evergreen) chauffés puis étirés.
Le modèle est placé sur une boite vitrine d’Ikea dans laquelle
j’ai installé des rochers pour décor de réseaux de train.

This Méhari GEOCAP was on display during the 2003 Rétromobile in
Paris. GEOCAP provided a system with tracks which replaced the 4
wheels. I've made a sort of chassis to which the 10 wheels were
attached. This gave me a firm assembly, that was then glued to the
bottom of the model.
The model is an Altaya,
the tracks were bought from
Modelcarparts. Actually they are replica's, for a Dinky model. These tracks were a bit too short, so I had to
glue two tracks to each other using very strong industrial glue.
The steering wheel was removed, the car is steered using two joysticks on the floor in
front of the driver seat.

Cette Méhari GEOCAP fût exposée lors du Retromobile 2003.
GEOCAP fournissait un système à chenilles qui remplaçait les
quatre roues. J’ai fabriqué une sorte de châssis sur lequel les
dix roues sont montées. Ceci donne un assemblage bien solide.
La miniature est un modèle Altaya. Les chenilles ont été achetées
chez
Modelcarparts. En fait ce sont des répliques de chenilles pour
une miniature Dinky Toys. Mais comme ces chenilles étaient un peu
trop courte j’ai du en coller deux bout à bout. Pour ce faire j’ai
utilisé une forte colle industrielle. Le volant est enlevé et
remplacé par deux manches à balais devant le conducteur.

I'm not sure whether this configuration actually ever existed;
there is however a brochure, of which you can see a scan in the
picture to the right.
To build this model, I've used a model from Altaya. This model has
no doors, so I've casted my own, using doors from a Norev-model.
The covers are made out of paper hankies, drenched in a solution
of wood glue and water.
